Suburban Games

The two leading teams, Burnaide and Beckenham, were beaten in the senior suburban cricket competition on Saturday. Now the six teams are separated by only six points. A century by J. Monk put Sumner well on the way to an outright win over Burnside. A fine spell of off-break bowling by T. Smltheram, who secured seven wickets for 27. clinched the result. Steady batting by Aranul enabled it to overhaul Beckenham’s total and to win on the first Innings. Merivale-Papanui had an excellent chance of beating Waltham outright. Set to score 118 In 140 minutes, Merivale-Papa-nui produced a stodgy display and at stumps was still six tuns short with two wickets in hand.
