Interesting Match At Sydenham

The cricket at Sydenham Park may have lacked quality, but it was certainly not without interest. Sydenham batted on a good pitch, but batsmen got themselves out at regular intervals to an attack which was never more than steady. W. A. Thomson played some fluent drives and hit with some power off the back foot to score 31 in 80 minutes, but six wickets were down for 86 before R. O. Thomson swung his bat effectively. He scored 25 in 30 minutes. With P. E. McKenzie and A. M. Pearce also swinging lustily, the total reached 153. K. Chalmers, in hi< first senior match, bowled left-arm at medium pace on a good line to take four wickets; but most of the others fell to well-placed mrs-hits. A. E. Dunlop and A. G. Rose

Started for Lancaster Park a» U Intent on gaining a first-innings lead by close of play. They gathered 77 runs in 45 vigorous minutes, but both were dismissed at that acere. In the next 78 minutes only 20 runs were added—a Jekyll and Hyde performance. Dunlop and Rose displayed a refreshing approach, hitting the ball with considerable power, but living dangerously. Sydenham provided good support by dropping six catches. J. M. Mclntyre bowled with accuracy and intelligence, first to stem the flow ot runs, thdn to dismiss four batsmen. He received valuable support from B. J. Salt, who flighted the ball well and on occasion threatened to turn it. The umpires are Messrs J. W. Streeter and B. Dennison.
