Gearry In Top Form

With R. E. Gearry leading the way, the Brabin Shield trialists hammered a North Canterbury attack when they scored 297 for six declared at Haglcy Oval yesterday. Gearry was in magnificent form, hitting 12 4s and two 6s in his 79 not out. He was particularly severe on R. C. Merrin, the Plunket Shield candidate, who finished with no wickets for 87 runs. North Canterbury collapsed before the Brabin eleven’s bowling and was dismissed for only 68. When the follow-on was enforced, North Canterbury was struggling, having lost four wickets for 17 runs.
