THIEF TAKES RARE STAMPS
(New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, December 15. One of the largest stamp collections in New Zealand was rifled at New Plymouth during the week-end while the owner was dining out with a group of fellow philatelists.
A window at the rear of his house was smashed to gain entry, and two rooms in the house containing the stamps were searched. The collector, who preferred to remain anonymous, said the thief obviously knew stamps.

“He took all the choice stuff,” he said. “There was a lot he could have taken that would have brought money, but he went for Cape of Good Hope stamps, and ones that are rare.” Although he was reluctant to disclose the value of the stamps, the collector said it would be considerable. “I could go for a good trip round the world on it,” he said. It is thought the intruder was disturbed when the occupants of the house returned at about 9.30 p.m. on Saturday. A box of pre-decimal New Zealand currency was found on a lawn.
