CASINO IN TASMANIA
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) HOBART (Tasmania), Dec. 15. Tasmanians have voted for a $5.5m gambling casino—the first in Australia —to be built in Hobart. Electoral officers said today that more than 87,000 voters favoured the project, and 78,000 voted against it in a compulsory referendum yesterday. The last word in approval of the project rests with the Legislative Council, the State’s upper house. Most of its 19 members have indicated they would vote for the casino.
