Architects Honoured By Institute
Six members of the New Zealand Institute of Architects have been honoured by the council for their services. Mr W. E. Lavelle has been created an honorary life member. He is a consulting architect in Wellington and was a founder of Structon Group Architects. Until recently Mr Lavelle was a principal of that firm which has designed major buildings in most New Zealand cities. He led the team of architects which drafted the new N.Z.I.A. conditions of contract, a comprehensive and up-to-date document which will be introduced early in 1989 for the direction and control of building contracts. Five associates of the institute have been elevated to fellowship. Mr E. Einhorn, of Wellington, is at present landscape architect in the Ministry of Works. An architect and a town planner, he guides the planning of the country’s large engineering projects. Mr S. A. JeliciCh, of. Auck-
I land, is a principal in the firm of Jelicich, Austin, Smith, , Mercep and Davies, and a member of the Auckland Architectural Association. Mr F. E. Kerswill, of Wellington, is a principal in the firm of Mitchell and Mitchell and Partners. He played a major part in the work of the Standards Association, the Building Research Bureau, and the Joint Standing Committee of Architects and Engineers. Mr W. L. Smith, of Auck land, is an associate in the firm of Stephenson and Turner, and is an authority on hospital architecture. He is the author of “Planning the Surgical Suite,” a comprehensive study of this type of architecture, published in the United States in 1960. Mr A. A. Wild, of Wellington, is director of the architectural division of Williams Development Holdings. He is a councillor, and chairman of the Wellington district branch of the Institute, and a member of the executive and education committees.
