TROTTING Oscar Picked At Waimate Today

Oscar, a promising four-year-old trotter in N. L. Berkett’s Yaldhurst team, should gain an overdue first win at a totalisator meeting in the Publicans’ Handicap, the first leg of the on-course concession double at the Waimate Trotting Club’s annual meeting today.

Oscar has been placed in his three starts this season, the most recent being a second to Final Donn at Orari a fortnight ago. Oscar will have to show very little improvement on that placing to win.

Kilarno, another four-your-old, is a most consistent trotter and in spite of his handicap of 36 yards he should be capable of extending Oscar. Caledonian Queen was run-ner-up to Dillade at Wyndham a fortnight ago. That placing entitles her to consideration.

Fingall, Martian and Coronet Peak should do best of' the other horses on the i limit, while Dan Mack and Mystic King, both on 36 yards, should show up. j Lucky Lord and Revilo, both trained in the North Otago district, could be two of the hardest to beat in the second leg of this double, the' Dom Keyes Handicap. Both have raced reasonably well in the last few weeks and they look to be capable of further promotion. Kyrac, from Eiffelton, and Lady Choice, from Palmerston, might master the two miles better than most of the others, although the chances of Cairnard, Santa Belle and Nebraska Queen must be considered. The T.A.B. concession: double will be run on the Waimate Cup and the C. D. Wilson Handicap. Fair weather is forecast and the track will be fast.
