G.H.S. PRIZE-GIVING

Most young people seemed, on the surface, anyway, to be quite self-sufficient in their calm insistence that they could cope with the pressure of adult life, the headmistress of Christchurch Girls’ High School (Miss P. M, Robinson), said in her annual report presented at the school’s prize-giving ceremony yesterday.

“We either protest, ‘ln my day I wasn’t allowed,’ which is met by their ‘You don’t understand: times have changed.’ or we give up and say. *T hope she knows what she’s doing. It’s beyond me,’ ” said Miss Robinson. “Both attitudes are wrong. The young are right; times have changed and we are jealous of their earning power and calm acceptance of luxuries as necessities. We have to make new rules, new agreements rather, based on discussion, not on unilateral adult dictatorship.’’ The guest speaker was Dr J. Irwin. Class and house prizes were presented by Mrs R. T.
