CHEQUE GIVEN

The Rev. Mother Melchior, superior-general of the Sisters of Compassion, received a cheque for $420 for her organisation, from Mrs Beverly Goatham, president of the New Zealand Modelling Association, in Wellington recently. The gift came from proceeds from the 1968 Benson and Hedges Award for Design competition, which are given to a welfare organisation every year. This year’s donation was the highest in the 50 years of the award. Based in Wellington, the Sisters of Compassion run several homes and hospitals in New Zealand, Australia and the South Pacific for retarded and handicapped children. The photograph shows the presentation of the cheque.
