HARBOUR RESCUES
Procedure To Follow
The pick-up boat Te Wharau which assisted to refloat the keeler Dorade at Charteris Bay on Sunday afternoon, is owned by the Charteris Bay Yacht Club, not the Banks Peninsula Cruising Club as reported yesterday morning. A spectator from the shore saw that the Dorade was aground and telephoned the Lyttelton Harbour Board’s signal tower. The harbourmaster then sent the Te Wharau to assist the Dorade A spokesman for the Charteris Bay Yacht Club emphasised yesterday that to inform the signal tower of any mishap was the correct procedure. Sometimes, he said, a person would run to the clubhouse when there was noone there, or the pick-up boat might be away on patrol during a race. The pick-up boat was always in radio communication with the signal tower which, if necessary, could tell the harbourmaster if a boat was in trouble.
