Mt Cook Airlines Orders Two New Aircraft
(N.Z. Press Association) = AUCKLAND, Nov. 13.
Mt Cook Airlines has ordered two new twin-en-gine aircraft, each worth $BO,OOO, for its South Island services, and is examining a replacement for the Grumman Widgeon flown in Auckland by its tourist airtravel branch. Mt Cook Airlines, formed only seven years ago, last month put into service a new 52-seat Hawker-Siddeley 748 turboprop aircraft to supplement the two DC3s it operates on its main South Island routes.
The two new aircraft are 10-seat Britten Norman Islanders, manufactured in Britain, which will be delivered next July. They will bring the Mt Cook-Tourist Air Travel fleet to 28 aircraft, which includes 16 Cessnas equipped with floats and skis, and five Grumman Widgeons. The new order was announced in Auckland today by the general manager of Mt Cook-Tourist Air Travel (Mr D. W. Davies). The new Brittens, he said, would be based at Queenstown for daily services to Milford Sound, Alexandra, and Dunedin.
