Danger Of Fire
Concerned about fire dan- ; ger in prefabricated classrooms, the Canterbury School Committees’ Association is advising its members to inspect such classrooms. Mr R. W. Taylor, the association’s secretary, said the Canterbury Education Boord had advised that prefabricated rooms complied with the fire egress code. This had recently been confirmed by /he Ministry of Works fire "officer. Mrs M. Ray, the chairman, said some prefabricated classrooms had their heating fires very close to the only exit “Our only protection.” she said, “is to see that the fires are as far away as possible from the door.”
Mr Taylor said that as windows were the only other exit in the event of fire, committees should also inspect them to see that they opened properly.
