More Girl Guides
An increase in membership of 5759 this year has brought the total number of girls and adults in the Girl Guides Association to 48,522, says a press release from the national headquarters. Although more adult lead- [ ers have joined the organisation this year, there are still 4343 girls aged between seven [and 10 waiting to join a brownie pack and 980 girls between 10 and 14 waiting to join a guide company as soon as more adults volunteer to be trained as leaders. Special training pr ogrammes for leaders are available in all parts of New Zealand. Camping is still the most popular activity in the guide orogramme, the report says. During the last 12 months 7387 guides have been away on camping holidays throughout New Zealand.
