Inspection Refused
When noxious weeds inspectors went to an Evans Pass property recently to see a nassella tussock outbreak, they were told that the property owner had declined to allow the inspection. His reason, the county inspector (Mr D. C. Smith) told the Malvern County Council yesterday, was that he considered the City Council staff had made a good job of clearing. “This was most disturbing, because it was obvious from the road that there are still mature plants growing on the property,” said Mr Smith. “The City Council is a member of the County Nassella Tussock Co-ordinating Committee, and its policy is to give mutual assistance wherever possible. “Unless urgent measures are taken to eliminate this infestation, the weed can spread to difficult country.” The visit, arranged by the Banks Peninsula Noxious Weeds Committee, was made by inspectors from the peninsula and Malvern, Paparua, Ellesmere and Rangiora counties. On Harbour Board land nearby they found three semi-mature tussocks and seedlings.
