$l00 MILLION AGREEMENT
A sloom agreement has been signed by Rootes Motors, Ltd, and the Iran National Company for the production of 140,000 Hillman cars. The existing Iran National plant is the largest car manufacturing plant in the Middle East and already makes special versions of the Minx and Hunter developed to suit the local conditions.
The plant was designed and developed with the assistance of Rootes and it is now to be subject to an s22m expansion programme. Most of the new equipment is expected to be ordered from British manufacturers.
The expanded facilities will include a programme to produce engines, although Rootes will continue to ship many' components tp Iran. At present sales of Rootes cars account for 50 per cent of the total Iranian market.
