France Blocks Moves

France outmanoeuvred its Common Market partners yesterday, virtually killing plans to beat its veto on early British membership of the community. This emerged after a twoday foreign ministers* conference principally devoted to the community’s internal development and the application for membership by Britain, Denmark, Norway, and Ireland. The meeting agreed that only trade arrangements with the applicants were feasible in the light of the continued French veto, informed sources said.
