Amman Returns To Normal

AMMAN, November 6.
The Jordanian capital began returning to normal today after almost 48 hours of curfew imposed in the wake of street clashes between Government troops and a Palestinian guerrilla group.
The troops—loyal to King Hussein—were reported to be chasing and mopping up elements of the geurrilla group who call themselves the “Phalanxes of Victory.” The curfew was lifted at midnight, but tanks were still in position at key points throughout the city. The curfew had been lifted earlier yesterday for about six hours, but was put into force again at 4 p.m. Scattered shooting was heard in the city last night.
King Hussein is due to hold
a press conference this afternoon at which he will discuss “important local and nationalist questions.” Jordanians in all walks of life have been voicing support for the 34-year-old Monarch’s pledge on Monday that his Government would put an end to what he called recklessness and give people back their confidence. (In Beirut, newspapers reported that representatives of all Palestinian commando organisations feel that commandos should concentrate only on Israel—the sworn enemy—and not interfere in the Internal affairs of any Arab country.)
