The sponsorship of the study awards by the National Council of the Licensed Trade was announced today by the president of the New Zealand Town Clerks’ and Municipal Treasurers’ Institute, Mr L. J. Wright, of Rotorua.
Three awards will be available each year for an initial period of three - years. “The awards are not designed for students wishing
to pursue university courses but rather for men who already hold, or are expected to hold in the near future, positions of responsibility in municipal local government,” said Mr Wright. The awards will be for a month’s duration and are intended to cover travel, living and other expenses during the period. The awards will be divided over three areas one among members in the Auckland province, excluding Bay of Plenty and Gisborne, another in the rest of the North Island, and the third in the South Island. The initial awards will be made for the years to December 31. 1969, 1970, and 1971. •
