Australian troops suffered their heaviest casualties of the Vietnam war in the first 16 months of 1968, the Minister of Defence (Mr Fairhall) told Parliament today. To October 18 this year, 86 Australians were killed in action, compared with 74 for the whole of 1967, and 55 in 1966; he said.
The 1968 figure was 37 per cent of the total 229 Australian servicemen killed since Australian committed troops to Vietnam in 1962.
