Popular vote returns with 88 per cent of the nation’s precincts counted.:— Humphrey .. 27,563,732 (43 per cent) Nixon .. .. 27,901,051 (43 per cent) Wallace .. .. 8,781,973 (14 per cent) On the electoral vote, Humphrey had won or was leading in the District of Columbia and states with a total electoral vote of 193, Nixon had won or was leading in states with a total of 195 votes, and Wallace had won or was leading in states with a total of 45 votes.
