Official Report, Prices

The official report on yesterday’s Christchurch wool sale issued by the Christchurch Woolbrokers’ Association, in conjunction with the New Zealand Woolbuyers’ Association and the Wool Commission, states:—

“The offering of 27,538 bales, which included 2886 bales on account of tlie Wool Commission, was drawn mainly from Canterbury and Marlborough, and the bulk of the offering comprised Corriedale and halfbred woolly hoggets, with a small percentage of Merino, halfbred and crossbred fleece wools.

“The hogget wools came forward in good condition and were generally well grown, sound and of good colour, while the ewe fleece lines tended to sljow the effects of the poor spring growth experienced at lambing and were inclined to be thin towards the butt of the staple. “Considering the adverse winter conditions experienced, the few high country clips on display opened up surprisingly well, particularly the Merinos, while the halfbred clips from these areas showed a rather more marked effect of the rigorous winter.

“The general standard of preparation of station classed clips was reasonable, but some lines were too mixed for quality, and this was ap-

plicable to the smaller clips. There was the usual range of oddments submitted, and these generally showed good colour, but were heavier in condition than usual.

“Competition was well spread, the Continent being the principal buyer, with good support from Japan and local mills, with Bradford moderately active, particularly on woolly hogget descriptions. “Compared with the recent sale in all crossbred descriptions were in sellers' favour. Compared with the recent fine wool sale in Timaru, Merinos can be quoted in buyers’ favour, fine halfbreds unchanged, and medium and strong halfbreds and Corriedales were fully in sellers’ favour.”
