DELAY ON WING
The Cashmere High School will ask the Department of Education for a reduction of the period of one year allocated for the construction of its new wing so that the work will be completed in time for the opening of the 1970 school year. This was decided at a meeting of the board yesterday. The board had before it a letter from the Superintendent of Education which said that the Ministry of Works was in difficulties over the shortage of quantity surveyors. The surveyors were heavily committed on university work.
The superintendent said the Ministry had partly measured up the drawings, and would do its best to have them completed by the end of January. The headmaster (Mr T. H. McCombs) said the further delay in the work was very disappointing. “The board would be well advised to ask for a reduction in the construction time," he said.
