METHODIST CHURCH
President Of Conference
The new president of the Methodist Conference, which will open at New Plymouth on November 6, will be the Rev. W. R. Francis, 8.A., 8.D., whose father was vice-presi-dent of the conference in 1936.
His parents served in the mission field in Papua, and Mr Francis grew up in Christchurch, receiving his education at Christchurch Boys’ High School, and working in the family business before going to Trinity College as an accepted candidate. Mr Francis served as a probationary minister at Russell and the Dunedin Central Mission, and spent three years in the Middle East as an army chaplain. A service bursary allowed him to study at the University of London for two years. On his return to New Zealand in 1947, Mr Francis served at Napier, Hamilton and Whangarei, and was district chairman of the Hawke’s Bay-Manawatu area. He was later district chairman for South Auckland and Northland.
