Strong Entry For N.Z. Golf Circuit

More than 20 overseas professional golfers will compete in some or all of the seven tournaments on this season’s New Zealand circuit for a total prize money of $34,000.

Entries for four of the seven tournaments, including the Open, close this week.

Mr N. D. Hayden, who is helping to organise the circuit, said that with a similar number of New Zealand professionals in the fields, it was likely the tournaments would have an average entry of about 45. The first tournament, the Sax Altman $5OOO, will be played at the Lochiel Club, Hamilton, from November 2123.

The Open, at Shirley from November 28-30, will be the second to be followed by the Caltex $5OOO at Paraparaumu Beach (December 5-7). Watties $4OOO at Hastings (December 9-10) and the B.P. $5OOO at the Grange club, Papatoetoe (December 13-15.) Two further tournaments, the Spalding Masters $4OOO and the Stars Travel $5OOO P.G.A. championship, will be played at Tauranga and Mount Maunganui, respectively, early in the new year. Entries for these two events do not close until December 6. In spite of the counterattraction of the Coff’s Harbour tournament, on which the Australian P.G.A. has not placed an embargo this season, particularly good entries have been received for the Sax Altman .

Godfrey, K. Kendall, J. M. Lister, B. T. Boys, D. Clark (New Zealand), C. and K. Nagle, G. Donald, P. W. Thompson (Victoria), J. Stolhand (Hawaii).

Entries made so far for the Open include R .J. Charles (New Zealand), Murray, F. Phillips (Australia), the Nagles, Townsend, Donald, Coxon, Lister, Stolhand, Ball, Clark, G. Bent and S. Peach (Western Australia) and A. J. Mangan (New South Wales).
