FARMERS’ STAFF

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 11. The secretary of the Clerical Workers’ Union, Mr D. G. Nolan, said that nothing would hide the fact that the Federated Farmers’ office staff covered by the clerical award had come to the union because they believed they had been shabbily treated. ’ They had asked the union to act for them because earlier approaches had resulted only in broken promises, Mr Nolan said. “The union did not comment inaccurately. The same cannot be said of the claim by the secretary (Mr J. G. Pryde) that wages are regularly reviewed. “Not one of the girls knew anything of wage reviews and some of them had not had a wage increase in two years and a half. “His claim that he is a strong advocate of healthy trade unions is not shared by Federated Farmers who have consistently opposed wage increases over the years. “Nor is it supported by his objection to me about the union acting on behalf of Federated Farmers’ employees,” Mr Nolan said.
