Lifting Records Fall
Seven New Zealand md 20 Canterbury power-lifting records were broken at the Canterbury power-lift-ing championships held by the Canterbury Amateur Weightlifting Association on Saturday. The contest attracted a record entry ot 29 from six clubs In Canterbury. Competitors' ages ranged from 13 to 56. A M. Butcher, who won the senior Utter ot the year award, broke the New Zealand heavyweight record total by 901 b when he lilted 14551 b in the three competition lifts, the squat, bench press and deadlift. T. Ebert broke his own New Zealand middle-weight squat record for the third time this year when he lifted 4401 b. He also broke the New Zealand middle-Weight power-lifting record total of 11051 b by 901 b. In the light heavyweight class W. Donovan lifted 5051 b to beat W. Day by 451 b and win the Canterbury light heavy-weight title. He also broke the Canterbury record. G. May (total 10501 b), A. P. Butcher (8001 b and J. Marcussen (7851 b all broke New Zealand junior records In the heavyweight, middle-weight and lightweight classes respectively.
