Radio And TV Stations
Sir, —I join “R.J.S.” in urging the Government to grant Radio Hauraki a land licence. I worked for them for six months, and in that short time they had many upsets, due more to bad luck than bad management or lack of trying. After each incident, this small group of young New Zealanders gathered their fast dwindling resources together, weighed anchor, and set sail for Colville Channel. Even normal daily transmission poses many obstacles. All their programmes have to be recorded and taped a week ahead, then flown out to the transmitting vessel Tiri 11, for broadcast exactly one week later. This stifles any chance of live programmes, telephone or personality formats. They have surpassed themselves even in these restricted conditions. Imagine what they could do if permitted to broadcast live. Surely enterprise such as this deserves reward.—Yours, etc., A YOUNG NEW ZEALANDER. October 4, 1968.
