Legislation On Air Pollution
The council would probably hear of a move to introduce air-pollution legislation in the near future, said a letter from the Christchurch Regional Planning Authority, received at a meeting of the Waimairi County CounciL The authority was replying to a letter from the council, criticising the statement made in Parliament by the Minister of Health (Mr McKay) to the effect that air pollution was not a serious problem. It seemed likely, said the authority, that the Minister was referring only to pollution from industrial sources, without regard to the domestic problem, which was the particular one in Christchurch. The authority had sent the Minister a copy of its interim report on air pollution, which gave information on Christchurch health hazards through sulphur dioxide pollution.
