Model Quest Winner
Miss Paula Ryan, aged 19, a graphic designer, yesterday won a Christchurch quest for a model for youthful, feminine clothes. Her prize was a frock of her own choice and part-time modelling engagements. Second in the contest was Miss Barbara Jones, aged 19, a kindergarten teacher. Miss Helen Stevens, aged 16, a receptionist was third. Both won gift vouchers. The contest was staged by Fiesta. Eight girls were auditioned after photographs of more than 50 had been considered. The judges of the three finalists who paraded last evening, were the merchandise manager and the person-
nel manager of a city store, Mr W. Lonie and Mr T. Higgins respectively. Miss Ryan has a list of successes in a variety of contests. Last year she won “Smile Contest” in Christchurch and was crowned “Queen of the Furrow” in a contest held in association with the world ploughing contest Her prize for that was a trip to Australia and a wardrobe. The second in a family of six children, Miss Ryan also won an N.Z.B.C. students’ art contest for the National Youth Orchestra programme. Her interests include water ski-ing, squash, landscape painting, and amateur acting. The photograph shows Miss Ryan during the judging of the contest.
