BEST OF SQUASH

The New Zealand Squash Rackets Association has announced the dates and venues for the 1968 Kothman’s roundrobin series; Christchurch has been alloted Monday, November 4. Taking part in the series will be five top Australians— K. Hiscoe, C. Nancarrow, R. Ratiniac, E. Hamilton and W. Hunt—and possibly the British Open champion, J. Barrington. Also there will be a New Zealand squad which will be chosen from T. Johnston, P. Dibley, D. Burmeister, C. Waugh and J. Stevens. To see all of these players in action on the one evening would provide Canterbury squash supporters with their greatest night of squash since ■the tremendous battle last year between the world champion, G. Hunt, of Australia, and Barrington.

The only disappointment is the non-availability of Hunt, who would have been the star attraction. However, the presence of Hiscoe, who was for many years Australia’s top player and who has not played in the South Island before, should ensure a packed gallery. The Canterbury association will be committed to a considerable financial outlay for the appearance of the Australians and is to be congratulated on its efforts to provide world-class squash. While the Australians are in New Zealand, they will play three test matches for the Slazenger Shield. The Canterbury association has applied for one of these in lieu of the round-robin series but as yet none of the tests has been allocated to any association.
