NEW SPORTS RESERVE
Motor-Cycling Request
There had been a firm request from the Combined Motor-cycle Clubs for the use of about 65 acres, Mr N. S. Coad told the North Canterbury Catchment Board yesterday, when plans to develop a 2000-acre reserve on board land at Harewood were again discussed. The board decided to tell the Paparua and Eyre county councils of the club’s application, and to point out that it emphasised the importance of the councils providing roading. The board agreed that the two golf clubs interested in using 700 acres of the reserve should be offered 21-year leases with perpetual right of renewal, with rent based on valuations. The board was shown a film of the golf clubs’ proposals, Mr L. W. McCaskill commending joint use by each club of car parks and a practice area. Expenditure of $l2OO was authorised to clear gorse on 150 acres under offer to the proposed Canterbury Golf Club, and to charge six per cent of the total cost to the club.
