SUSPENDED SENTENCE

A military tribunal here sentenced the secretarygeneral of the Saigon Students’ Union to three years gaol for “actions harmful to national security,” but suspended the sentence. The 24-year-old head of the 35,000-strong association, Nguyen Thannh Cong, was arrested when police raided and closed the student union headquarters. Earlier, the police said they had found Communist propaganda and Viet Cong flags in the buildI ing.
