FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A shallow depression in the Tasman Sea is moving east-south-east and should cross the North Island this morning. A warm front associated with it lies across the Auckland area. A west to south-west airstream prevails over the South Island and two weak cold fronts are moving east across the South Island. Forecast: Canterbury.—Moderate west to southwest winds; mainly fine and rather cold; some showers likely about the far western ranges. Outlook: rain. Marlborough.—Moderate variable winds at first, with occasional rain; fresh northwesterlies towards midday; becoming fine. Outlook: unsettled. Buller and Westland.—Fresh west to south-west winds; cold and showery. Outlook: showers, probably heavy for a time. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
