Shopkeeper Robbed For Second Time
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 15.
One year after being robbed of more than $ll,OOO, an elderly Ponsonby shopkeeper was today beaten and robbed of about $2O.
Mr J. P. Kosovich, aged 76, said two Islanders came into his shop in Jervois Road about 5 p.m. and asked for a bottle of sauce from a top shelf.
As he reached up he was grabbed round the throat from behind. He gave his assailant “a bop” on the head with the bottle, and then the second man came behind the counter and punched him on the side of the face.
"They dragged me into the back room and one of them wound a doubled piece of string around my neck,” he said. “One of them picked up a tea towel and tried to push it into my mouth, because I was shouting out by then.
“I was groggy, but not unconscious.
Mr Kosovich said the two men took about $2O from a till and cash drawer.
“September is just not my month,” Mr Kosovich said. On September 27 last year Mr Kosovich was attacked in his bedroom above the dairy. He said he was gagged, bound, and beaten unconscious. His assailants stole more than $ll,OOO, including SUSIO,OOO.
