Hostesses Win Bras Battle
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, Sept. 13. New South Wales air hostesses have won a battle over what they should wear under their see-through blouses. They may wear bright red, black, blue, or even psychedelic coloured bras—provided
that they do not remove their jackets. The battle of the bras—between Hie airlines In New South Wales and the Airline Hostesses’ Association began in March with the issuing of a notice after the introduction of new unforms with see-through, bonecoloured blouses.
Hostesses complained they had been instructed to wear neutral beige or cream underwear, and these were much more expensive than other colours.
The dispute was settled before a board of reference yesterday. To clarify the position the company said afterwards it would withdraw its notice and issue a new one.
The new instructions, approved by the union, would say that underwear of light colours—pink, cream, bone, beige, natural, skin tones and peach—could be worn. The company would rely on the hostesses’ good dress sense, but would have the right to ban psychedelic colour and black and blue when no jacket was worn.
