Sweeps In Vietnam
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SAIGON, Sept. 15. American infantrymen yesterday killed 50 enemy troops in sweeps along the invasion routes leading from Cambodia to Saigon. This brought to 700 the number of Viet Cong and North Vietnamese fatalities in heavy fighting near Tay Ninh and Loc Ninh since last Wednesday. 852 bombers continued their saturation strikes on enemy base camps and supply routes stretching from the Cambodian border north-west of Tay Ninh to the eastern coast of South Vietnam, dropping nearly 2mlb of explosives on enemy positions in nine missions yesterday and today. Some of the strikes were only 22 miles from Saigon. Over North Vietnam, United States tactical fighter-bombers again concentrated on Communist supply routes below the 19th Parallel. United States Navy pilots reported destroying or damaging at least 12 barges and supply boats.
