FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An anticyclone north of New Zealand is moving eastwards; a strong disturbed westerly airstream covers the south Tasman Sea and much of the country; a cold front in this stream is advancing northeastwards over the South Island. Forecast: Canterbury. Moderate, occasionally fresh, west to south-west winds; fine; temperatures tending cooler. Marlborough.—Fresh west or north-west winds; a few showers likely about the ranges but the weather mainly fine and mild. Nelson.—West or south-west winds, fresh at times; some showers on the western ranges, otherwise fine and mild.
