'THESE Charolais cross calves and their mothers are running on the property of the Craigmore Farming Company at Maungati in South Canterbury. Some 60 cows and heifers were inseminated With Charolais semen this season, includ-
ing four Friesians and 66 Aberdeen Angus. Up until Tuesday of this week 17 calves had been born, including two to Friesian dams. Most of the calves have been bora in the last two weeks and Mr R. Elworthy says that they have ranged in
weight at birth from 651 b to 921 b. There have been no calving difficulties. In the next season Charolais semen will be used with 100 females. The intention on Craigmore is to eventually reach the stage of having cattle recognised as pure Charolais.
