SCIENCE FICTION
Worlds Of The Imperium. By Keith Laumer. Dobson. 133 pp.
Keith Laumer has been very popular in America for some years, and his books are just now becoming available in Britain. He writes crisp, tense and fast-moving fiction that is packed with action and is fun to read. “Worlds Of The Imperium” is an alter-nate-worlds story of the “what would the world be like if Napoleon had won at Waterloo?" kind. Brion Bayard is kidnapped from this worldsequence and taken to another, where he finds identical doubles of famous personages from his own world. Here he learns of the threat posed to this world by another of the alternate worlds, which is ruled by a dictator named Brion Bayard. Brion’s assignment is to enter the enemy world disguised as his double, kill the dictator, and assume control . until order can be restored. But when Brion meets his double he discovers that the threat does not lie with the dictator. “Worlds Of The Imperium” is the kind of story that starts at top speed and never slows down.
