(II) Medically qualified junior research officers. (III) Scientific Officers (Chemist, Physicist. Biologist, etc.) (2) The annual salary for a senior medical research officer would be in the range $4270 to $6BOO p.a. or in exceptional circumstances $7OOO to $BlOO p.a. Salary for a junior medical research officer or scientific fellow would be subject to negotiation, but would be expected to be in the region of $3400 to $4140 p.a. A supplementary grant of up to $2OO p.a may be paid for travel ex penses. (3) The post would involve essentially full time research in the subject of Diabetes Mellitus or in relevant disciplines to be carried out in a centre in New Zealand to be approved by the Diabetic Association. The Fellowship would be tenable in the first place for two years, subject to progress being made to the satisfaction of the Executive of the Diabetic Association at the end of each year’s tenure, and with the possibility of further renewal. (4) The applicant must provide an outline of the projected scheme of work and an assessment of subsidiary expenses along with a certificate from the responsible authority in the institute, department or hospital where the applicant proposes to work, to certify that facilities and accommodation are, in fact, available for the type of work to be done. (5) The applicant must provide a short curriculum vitae, a full list of previous appointments, reprints of published papers, a certificate of health, a copy of a recent X-ray report, and the names of two people who would be willing to act as referees as to his character and ability. (6) Ten copies of the application must be in the hands of the Secretary, New Zea- • land Diabetic Assn Inc., P.O. Box 3656, Wellington, Cl, New Zealand, by October 31, 1968, so that the appointment can be announced in November. The Fellow will be expected to take up his Fellowship during 1969. (7) Applicants should specify the class of Fellowship, Senior Medical, Junior Medical, or Scientific, for which the application is made. Consideration would be given to part of the first year of the Fellowship being held in an overseas institute of approved nature, but it would be encumbent on the applicant to spend subsequent years in a New Zealand institute.
