One Of Last With Moko
(N.Z. Free, Association! TAURANGA, Sept. 12. A Katikati woman, Mrs Ripene Wharekawa, who was thought to have been about 100 years of age, has died. Mrs Wharekawa, whose exact age was unknown, was one of the last Maoris at Katikati to wear the moko (chin tatoo). Mrs Wharekawa, nee Kuka, was born on Matakana Island. She is survived by four children from her second marriage, all of whom are living in Katikati.
