Week Ends On Active, Firm Note
The sharemarket finished the week’s trading on an active and firm note yesterday, with rises well ahead of falls, in heavy trading over a wide range. Leaders confirmed the trend.
Insurances were again in active demand: New Zealand put on 15c, to 410 c, and South British gained 25c, to 535 c. R. W. Saunders rose 13c to 225 c, and Nelson Freezing, which had not traded for some time, sold 10c higher to 160 c. N.Z. Refining, which had been slowly but steadily declining for some time, reacted to the profit announcement with a fall of sc, to 570 c. B.H.P. lost 85c to 2110 c. N.Z. Reserves The net overseas assets of the New Zealand banking system fell $40.7m, to $173.7m in the week to September 4, the Reserve Bank announced. This time last year they were $106.3m.
