SKATING TEAM
Track Suits N.Z. Style
The New Zealand roller skating team should be well suited to the track for the world championships which start in Alte Montecchio, Italy, tomorrow. In a special report telephoned to New Zealand yesterday, the manager of the team (Mr R. Young) said the track, made of a gritty marble substance, required a very high degree of technique. “This suits our skaters,” said Mr R. Young. “They are skating the corners better than anyone else, and Gerry Glover, because of his technique, is able to skate round the corners.” The New Zealanders’ chances of success were very high, said Mr Young, Glover especially so. Also, he said, Glover is regarded as a very strong contender for the threeday tour of Sicily, and it has been suggesed he should drop out of one of the intermediate meetings to rest for the tour.
The team has received a lot of assistance from the 1962 world champion, Vittoria De Caesars.
