FACTORY SOLD
Former Starch
Industry
The 25,000 sq. ft factory of Starch Products, Ltd, of Ferry Road, Woolston, has been sold privately for an undisclosed figure, after being passed in recently at $52,000. A syndicate has bought the five-acre property and buildings for a warehouse and storage. The factory housed the only starch and gluten-manufactur-ing industry in the South Island, until it closed down about April and all production was transferred to Auckland. The factory’s closingafter about 28 years in starch production—was linked with the Government’s lifting of the subsidy on flour in February, 1967. The main factory building was the Zealandia company’s soap factory many years ago. About 1940 it was bought by Provita Mills, which made j mostly laundry starch and some cornflour. The most recent owner was Crooper N.R.M., Ltd, which bought the factory from A. H. Turnbull, Ltd, in 1962. The property was sold by Ford and Hadfield Ltd.
