16 Qualify At Trials
Kyrac, winner of the first heat, recorded the fastest time among the 16 horses to qualify for the Maiden Event at the New Brighton Trotting Club's meeting tomorrow week. Kyrac paced the 13 furlongs in 3min 36 4-ssec when four elimination heats were run at Addington Raceway yesterday. Kyrac was one of the tailenders until the three furlongs and he then sprinted up fast to be vying for the lead at the straight entrance. At the finish he won by a length from Sheer Delight. Michaeloe, His Nibs, Caddy, and Junior Whip were others to pace impressively. The 16 horses to qualify were Baffle Boy, Caddy. Claim, Disturb, Eiffahcam, Grainger. His Nibs. Ike Fire, Junior Whip. Kyrac, Michaeloe, Nebraska Queen. Smokey Express. Status, Sheer Delight, and Wairimu. New Tower At Ashburton A 45ft tower to be used jointly by the Ashburton trotting and racing clubs for the filming of races arrived this week. The tower, which was bought fro mthe electricity department, will be at the top of the main straight. Its main purpose will be to aid stipendiary stewards in their inquiries into the running of races. A contract for the erection of the new tower and a filming box on top is to be let in the near future, and it is hoped that the tower will be in working order for the Ashburton Trotting Club’s spring meeting on October 5.
