FUTURE OF RONGOTAI
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 12. New technical information made available by the Government indicated that Wellington Airport could not have “an instrument runway,” the chairman of the airport committee (Cr S. H. J. Duff) said today. “That means there is no real future for Rongotai as an international airport,” Mr Duff said, “and this will make us all the more determined to press on with development of Paraparaumu.” He added that the airport committee would, of course, do everything possible to keep Rongotai open for transTasman flights as mg as possible, but by 1971 the completion of Paraparaumu must be well under way. The committee would also be taking every step to deal with the proposed new terminal at Rongotai as a matter of urgency.
