Mail Order Warning

The Consumers’ Institute has warned people not to send money through the mail for items with which they are not familiar.

The latest issue of “Consumer” says that one of the institute’s members sent $2 for a device to remove blackheads from the face. She received a small plastic syringelike device about two inches and a half long. A local chemist said he could sell her a similar item for sc, and did so. Both syringes bore the same brand name, and appeared exactly the same save for some lettering on the side.

The advertisers claimed that the wholesale price paid by them was greater than the reported retail price. But several Wellington chemists confirmed that the price was 5c to Bc.
