SHE SAYS...

i Women silently bless inertia-reel type seat belts where adjustment to suit differing body sizes is taken care of by the belt mechanism.

A seat-belt worn too loosely gives no support to the body, and body movement in an accident may not be prevented. But so many slightlybuilt wives, rather than adjust belts to their size, wear the belt as adjusted for their husbands. Many women will shun the use of the belt rather than go to the bother of adjusting it. Admittedly some types of belt are quite difficult to adjust I know I have struggled with ours several times, often only to find that a strap has been jammed between or beneath the bucket seats. Women in the latter months of pregnancy may find there is insufficient length of belt to adjust—so the belt remains unworn.

Another aspect of comfort in cars that many women find difficult is the seat adjustment. This often ties in with seat-belt adjustment, for the closer the seat is moved

to the wheel the tighter becomes the belt. Husbands, I am certain, are not going to adjust the seat and the belt to suit their wives before they leave the car, so it is up to women to set aside a few extra minutes to get a comfortable driving position.
