NEW ALL BLACK RETIRES
(N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. A new All Black this season and a former New Zealand Junior and Wanganui representative, P. A. Johns, of New Plymouth, has retired from Rugby. Aged 24, he suffered a broken collarbone playing in a club match last July. The break has failed to knit and he must have a corrective operation within the next few weeks. Because it seems there will be a recovery period of at last two months after the operation and because he does not want to risk further injury, Johns said yesterday that he had decided to retire. After representing Wanganui in 14 matches, Johns was selected for the All Blacks to tour Australia last June.
He played in six games on tour, two at full-back and four at second fiveeighths, the position for which he was originally selected.
