A Christchurch manufacturer will export to Australia specialist knowledge, manufacturing techniques and plant lay-out.
He is the Governing Director of the electrical equipment firm, P.D.L. Industries, Ltd, Mr R. H. Stewart, who returned to Christchurch this week from Sydney where he has been planning a new Australian factory. He says that he intends to export from Australia if shipping and other problems deny his firm quick deliveries to the Asian markets and other world markets. Mr Stewart's associate company, H.E.M. Australia, Ltd, jointly owned by a large English manufacturer and P.D.L., is manufacturing in Sydney. He has been seeking either another site to build a new Sydney factory or a new factory. Mr Stewart says that he
intends to manufacture a very wide range of products in New Zealand for export to • Australia. These will be in ; their finished form or in components for assembly in the Australian company. It is intended to install in Sydney a duplicate plant to the P.D.L. plant in Christchurch. This will enable tools i and equipment to be produced 1 in New Zealand and exported to Australia. Mr Stewart is looking at the possibility of getting export incentives from both New Zealand and Australia. His recent offer to buy the shareholding of Urlwins Industries, Ltd, is associated with plans for increased exi ports.
